Microchipping Service is now available before puppies go home.  This is an optional service that is available with a charge lower than most vets.  Our vet charges $50 plus tax, but it will vary from vet to vet.  We have purchased a universal scanner this year and are able to verify the microchip number and that it is working.  Microchips do require an enrollment to the service.  Which are a one time charge for the life of the dog.  If you move, or sell your pet, it is important to remember to udate your informaton, which can be done online.   

There are three microchips I will be using and you have your option to choose which you would like.  If you would like your pet micro chipped, I MUST KNOW IN ADVANCE.  Preferably about 2 weeks so I can make sure I have the proper micriochips ordered. 

CHIPS AVAILABLE:

AKC Indigo Microchips 134.2 kHZ, an ISO chip. 

ISO chips are the standard in many countries across Europe, Cananda, and Japan.  Recommended if you will be traveling outside U. S with your pets.  They are the international standard, however, are just now becoming more popular in the U.S., and some vets or shelters that have not updated their scanners to a universal scanner, are unable to read them.  Most should be updated on them by now, but some shelters are on limited finances and have not udated their scanners due to their cost. These have a 15-digit code.

AKC Indigo 128 kHZ

125 and 128 kHZ chips are a 10 character chip and the most commonly used in the U.S. since 1995.  Therefore, if a pet is taken to a shelter, they will more than likely have the correct scanner to read the chip if they do not have a universal scanner. 

Enrollment to the AKC Pet Recovery service is a one time fee of $17.50 online or $19.95 if you want to do it by mail.  Any microchip can be enrolled to their service.

HOME AGAIN 125 kHZ

10 digit code comparable to AKC 128 kHZ.  This chip frequency is also one that has been used in the U. S. for years and one of the most common frequencies. 

Home Again chips are specially designed to prevent the chip from migrating. 

Home Agains recovery service is $16.99 and says per year.  This however is not required.  Only a one time fee is required, but from what I have read, if you pay by credit card online they continue to charge you every year to "support" their service, unless you contact them.  Most people say they just enroll their Home Again Chip with the AKC CAR program instead since AKC accepts all chips to avoid the hassle. 

 If you click on the title of each micro chip, it will link you to their website.  From what I have read on some vetrinary sites, The ISO chip and the popular US chips run on different frequencies and do not interfere with one another.  Therefore, if you prefer, both chips can be implanted and used.

IF anyone that lives near by us would like to have us microchip their dog, give us a call.  It will depend on if we are able to get the dog to sit still enough to chip. Usually is NOT a problem.  My dogs didn't even seem to notice.
