When considering purchasing a bulldog puppy it is important to consider the costs associated with purchasing one. One main concern is your willingness and financial ability to properly care for this special breed. Besides the daily grooming, this breed requires a high-quality diet that won't set off allergies or intestinal problems. Another important consideration is overheating, bulldogs are easily overheated. They need to be an indoor dog with air-conditioning. A fenced in yard is also highly recommened for bulldogs, since they are very brave dogs and are not afraid of much at all.
The cost of a bulldog is high because the cost of breeding bulldogs is high. Typically a couple of progeterone tests are done to determine when the bulldog is ready to be bred. Artificial insemination must be done on bulldogs because they cannot breed on their own. The female cannot support the weight of the male on her. A Cesarean section must be done for birth, which depending on your vet, can cost thousands of dollars. Very few people have successfully given natural birth, in most cases the mother and/or the puppies are severely harmed or pass away. We are not willing to take that risk and hope most others aren't irresponsible enough to. Usually sonograms and X-rays are done through the gestation period. The care of the mother and puppies can be expensive after birth too and many hours are put into the care of them. They aren't a breed where you can just leave the mother with the puppies. You have to do alot of the work to keep the puppies healthy and ensure they are properly cared for.
